MRR Movements

The MRR Movements report shows how your Monthly Recurring Revenue changed each period, broken down by the type of change — new business, expansion, contraction, churn and reactivation. Where the MRR report shows your absolute revenue line, MRR Movements shows the forces moving it up and down.

It lives as the Movements tab in the MRR report group, alongside MRR, MRR Subtypes and MRR Growth.

Overview

The report has three parts:

  1. Stacked bar chart — each period's MRR change, split into its movement types (gains above the axis, losses below).
  2. Movements table — the same numbers per period, one row per movement type, ending in the net MRR change, the resulting MRR, and the growth rate. Each cell shows the amount plus the number of customers behind it.
  3. Detail table — click any cell to see the individual customer movements that make it up.

Everything updates together with the date range, interval and every standard filter.

Movement types

MovementWhat it means
NewRevenue from brand-new customers starting their first paid subscription.
ExpansionRevenue from existing customers who upgraded a plan or added more seats, features or usage.
ReactivationRevenue from previously churned customers who returned and started paying again.
ContractionRevenue lost to downgrades — fewer seats or usage, or a move to a lower plan.
ChurnRevenue lost from fully cancelled subscriptions; these customers are no longer active.
FX impactChanges in MRR caused purely by foreign-exchange rate movements, for customers paying in non-base currencies. Only shown when it's material.

When you filter by plan or billing frequency, two extra rows can appear — Entered segment and Left segment — which capture customers moving into or out of the filtered segment (typically via a plan change), so the movements still reconcile to the MRR change.

Tip: to understand why a movement happened — e.g. whether "expansion" is real upsell or just a discount ending, or whether churn is voluntary vs. involuntary — use the MRR Subtypes report, which decomposes each movement type by mechanism.

Movements table

Each row is a movement type; each column is a period. A cell shows the MRR for that movement with the distinct-customer count as a small marker (green for gains, red for losses).

The table ends with three summary rows:

  • MRR change — the net of all movements for the period.
  • MRR — the resulting total MRR at the end of the period.
  • Growth rate — the period-over-period percentage change.

Hovering a row highlights the matching series in the chart.

Filters

The MRR Movements report supports all standard filters — date range, interval, plan, region, currency, billing frequency, payment method, industry, customer age, size, channel, data source, and custom variables (see all filters). You can also filter to specific movement categories (new, expansion, contraction, churn, reactivation).
