Insights
Insights tells you what needs your attention in your subscription business, and what it's worth. It does two jobs:
- It watches the money at risk right now. Customers who haven't paid, cancellations already scheduled, annual renewals coming up, discounts about to end and cards that run out before the next charge. These come straight from your billing data.
- It finds what changed, and why. At the end of every week and month, GrowPanel does the drilldown a careful analyst would do: every metric, cut by every filter and grouping. It finds the root cause of what moved, drops everything that's likely chance or too small to matter, and tells you the rest in a few plain stories.
Everything is ranked by the money at stake, so the first thing you read is the thing worth the most. Instead of spending an hour in reports every Monday, you start with the answer.
Insights is included on every plan, including trials and the free plan.

Find it under Insights in the left menu. The first time you open it, a short guided tour walks you through the three tabs and what everything on them means. To take it again, hover the info icon next to the Insights heading and click Take the tour.
Three tabs
- Situation room is the start page: three cards with the money right now (At risk now, Likely to leave and Discounts ending), your three top priorities, and everything else that's going on. See Situation room.
- Revenue at risk shows the customers behind the money: who hasn't paid and for how long, who is about to cancel, which renewals and cards need a look. Work through the list and mark customers as contacted. See Revenue at risk.
- All insights lists every insight, current and ended, with filters.
All insights

Switch between Active, Ended and All, pick a kind (churn, payments, leads and so on), and filter by what you marked an insight: Working on it, Not now, Noted or Not relevant. Sort by most at stake or by date. Click a row to open it.
What makes an insight
Most of what the drilldown turns up is never shown. An insight is a change that matters and isn't chance, and three things have to be true before GrowPanel tells you about one:
- It's unusual for your business. Every number is compared with your own recent history. A churn month that would be terrible for one business is an ordinary month for another.
- It's big enough to matter. A change has to be worth a meaningful share of your MRR, so a handful of dollars never becomes an insight. How much is up to you, in Insights settings.
- It's unlikely to be chance. Every change is tested statistically, and the tests take into account that many numbers are checked at once, so random wobbles don't slip through.
The same goes for money at risk. Unpaid invoices and upcoming renewals are always on the Revenue at risk tab, but they only become an insight when they're clearly above what's usual for you, and the insight says by how much: "Unpaid is 39% more than usual". A business that always has a few customers in dunning doesn't need to be told so every week.
Insights also looks for the real cause, not just the side effects. A group is only named as the cause of a change when it's clearly over-represented in it, not just big. And related changes are told as one story, so a drop in leads that led to fewer new customers and less new MRR is one insight, not three.

Ranked by what's at stake
Every insight carries the money it's about: the MRR that's unpaid, the churn above its usual level, the upside from discounts ending. The Situation room ranks insights by that amount, weighed by how sure GrowPanel is, so a certain $10k problem comes before an uncertain $12k one. Insights without an amount, like a drop in leads, follow the ones with money attached.
Tell it what you're doing
Every current insight has three choices, shared by everyone on the account:
- Working on it: you're on it. It stays on the page until it's back to normal, and then shows that you worked on it. Good news gets Noted instead, which moves it down the list.
- We know why: you know what caused it, so it moves down the list. For the big things, like a price change or a move to another billing system, choose Add a timeline event… to put what caused it on every report chart as a timeline event.
- Hide: Not now parks it at the bottom of the list. Not relevant to us and The numbers look wrong take it off the start page and tell GrowPanel why, so it flags less of that kind of thing.
Owners and admins make these choices. Everyone on the account sees them, and can use Ask AI and the link to the report. See Situation room.
When it's updated
- The money figures (At risk now, Likely to leave, Discounts ending and the Revenue at risk tab) are worked out from your billing data as it is now, and refreshed during the day. The time is shown at the top of the page.
- Insights are found at every close: at 05:00 in your account's time zone on the first day of each week (Monday, or Sunday if your week starts on Sunday) for the week that just ended, and on the 1st of each month for the month that just ended. Weeks only flag the bigger changes; months tell the full story.
When you connect a new data source, GrowPanel reads your history once the import is finished, up to two years back, so the page is full from the first day.
Where else insights show up
- Your dashboard: add the Insights widget to any dashboard to see the current insights at a glance.
- Email reports: weekly and monthly email reports include the insights most worth knowing from that close, with what to do about them. Turn email reports on under Settings → Notifications.
- Your charts: insights you explain with a timeline event show as a flag on every report chart, so the jump explains itself later.
- GrowPanel AI: every insight has an Ask AI button that opens GrowPanel AI with the insight and starts digging straight away. You can also just ask the chat "What should I focus on this week?", "How much revenue is at risk right now?" or "Why is churn up?", and it answers from your insights.
- Download: the download button at the top of the page saves the page as a Markdown file, for your own notes or AI tools.
Your data and AI
Insights itself is worked out by GrowPanel on your own numbers. It isn't an AI model guessing. AI is used in three places:
- Suggested next steps on some insights, written by Anthropic's Claude from what Insights found. See Suggestions.
- GrowPanel AI, the chat behind Ask AI, also Claude.
- Email reports, where OpenAI picks what goes in the Insights section.
For Insights, they only receive aggregated numbers about your business: totals, rates, trends, plan and region names, and the text of your insights. Never your customers' names, email addresses or IDs, and the customer list on the Revenue at risk tab is never sent to an AI model. (When you ask GrowPanel AI about a specific customer, their name and email are replaced with a placeholder before anything reaches the model.) Both providers are listed on our subprocessors page.
Settings
The settings icon at the top of the page opens Insights settings, where owners and admins can choose how much Insights tells you about and switch off kinds of insights you don't need.
