Insights settings
Open the settings from the settings icon at the top of the Insights page, or go to Settings → Insights. The settings apply to everyone on the account, on the Insights page, the dashboard widget and email reports. The money cards and the Revenue at risk tab don't depend on them: they always show the money at risk right now. Only owners and admins can change them; everyone else can see them.
How much to show
Insights flags a change when it's big enough to matter and unlikely to be chance. The slider sets where that line is, in five steps. As you slide, the text under it says what to expect.
| Step | Smallest change told | At most per month-close | At most per week-close |
|---|---|---|---|
| Only the biggest | 2% of MRR | 1, plus 1 group | 1, important only |
| Fewer | 1% of MRR | 2, plus 1 group | 1, important only |
| Normal (recommended) | 0.5% of MRR | 3, plus 2 groups | 2, plus 1 group |
| More | 0.25% of MRR | 5, plus 3 groups | 3, plus 2 groups |
| Everything | 0.1% of MRR | 8, plus 5 groups | 5, plus 3 groups |
Higher steps also let through changes that are a little more likely to be chance, so a few of them will turn out to be nothing.
- Smallest change told: how much a change must be worth, as a share of your MRR.
- At most per close: the most insights about your whole business told at each close, plus the most about one region, plan or billing interval moving differently from the rest. The most certain ones with the biggest impact go first.
Long-term differences between groups of customers don't depend on this setting.
When you save a new step, GrowPanel rebuilds your insights with it, history included, within about ten minutes. What you marked stays with its insights.
Which step to choose? Start at Normal. Move toward Fewer if you read insights you don't act on, or if your business is large and steady. Move toward More if your business is small and you want to see smaller moves, or while you watch closely after a big change. See Acting on insights.
What to show
Switch off the kinds of insights you don't need. Hidden insights disappear from the Insights page, the dashboard widget and email reports. Turn them back on at any time: nothing is lost while a kind is hidden.
| Kind | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Leads, trials and new customers | New business and lead-to-customer conversion |
| Expansion and reactivation | Upgrades, discounts ending and customers coming back |
| Churn and contraction | Cancellations, downgrades and why customers leave |
| Net new MRR | The net result of all movements |
| Payments | Unpaid customers, failed payments, recovery, one-time revenue and Stripe fees |
| Coming up | Discounts ending, cancellations already scheduled and busy renewal months |
| Changes in a group | A region, plan or billing interval moving differently from the rest of the business |
| Long-term differences | A group of customers starting, changing or stopping to behave differently over a year |
An insight can belong to two kinds: a change in the UK's churn is both Churn and contraction and Changes in a group. Switching off either one hides it.
You can also hide a kind from any insight: open its Hide menu and choose Hide all insights about …. The notification that follows has an Undo button, and the kind shows as (hidden) here until you turn it back on.
See Kinds of insights for what each kind includes.
