AI-powered plan group recommendations

If you've ever connected a billing system to an analytics tool, you know the feeling: suddenly you're staring at 47 different "plans" that are really just variations of three products. A legacy price, a grandfathered tier, a regional variant, the one you created for that one customer who asked nicely.

Billing systems are great at tracking every price point. They're terrible at giving you a clean view of your business.

That's why GrowPanel has always had plan groups – a way to bundle related plans into meaningful categories so your reports actually make sense. But setting them up manually has always been a bit tedious, especially when you have dozens or hundreds of plans.

Today we're making that a lot easier with the AI plan group recommender.

How it works

When you open the plan groups settings, you'll now see a button to get AI-powered recommendations. Click it, and GrowPanel analyzes your plan names, pricing, billing frequencies, and currencies to suggest logical groupings.

The AI looks at patterns in your data: plans with similar names but different currencies probably belong together. A "Starter" plan at $12/month and a "Starter" plan at €10/month are clearly the same product. A legacy price from 2021 and a current price from 2024 might belong in the same group too.

You get a clean list of suggested groups with the plans assigned to each. Review the suggestions, adjust anything that doesn't look right, and apply. What used to take 20 minutes of clicking around now takes about 30 seconds.

Why plan groups matter

Plan groups are the foundation of useful plan-level reporting. Without them, your "MRR by plan" chart is a mess of overlapping lines. Your cohort analysis by plan is unreadable. Your churn breakdown by tier is meaningless because "Starter (USD)" and "Starter (EUR)" show up as separate plans.

With good plan groups, all of that just works. You see three clean lines: Starter, Growth, Enterprise. You can compare retention by tier. You can track expansion from one group to another.

The AI recommender removes the friction of getting there.

Smart defaults, full control

The recommendations are suggestions, not mandates. You can rename groups, move plans between groups, or ignore the suggestions entirely. GrowPanel never changes your plan groups without your explicit approval.

And if your plans change over time – new tiers, price updates, deprecated offerings – you can re-run the recommender anytime to get updated suggestions that account for the latest data.

The AI plan group recommender is available today in Settings > Plan groups. It works with all data sources – Stripe, Chargebee, and Recurly.
